What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback procedure which renormalizes the brain and the central nervous system, leading to greater concentration, improved sleep, increased confidence, decreased pain and anxiety, and normalized moods. In the sense that it causes the brain to forge new pathways, leading to optimal fuction, it is also referred to as “Brain Training.” It uses the tiny signals created by the brain through sensors and responds with signals back to the brain. We also use the same feedback on areas of the body (in addition to the brain) to reduce various kinds of pain and spasms. The body application is called Body LENS; it is an integral part of pain resolution for many of our patients who suffer with migraines.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, medication free, permanent solution
Insights to Health offers neurofeedback as a treatment option, often combining it with botanical medicines or supplements that work synergistically to meet our patients’ health goals. Because it is a non-invasive, medication free, permanent solution, it is extremely popular with children and adults. We use a specific type called LENS or Low Energy Neurofeedback System, that provides feedback via an extremely gentle electromagnetic signal. LENS works without conscious effort by the patient, and requires just a few moments of sitting quietly (as opposed to traditional methods) and is therefore appropriate for active children and severely disabled individuals as well as for adults.
“Scholarly literature suggests that neurofeedback should play a major therapeutic role in many difficult areas. In my opinion, if any medication had demonstrated such a wide spectrum of efficacy it would be universally accepted and widely used. It is a field to be taken seriously by all.”Frank H. Duffy, M.D. — Professor and Pediatric Neurologist at Harvard Medical stated in Clinical Electroencephalography 2000.
LENS is effective in treating a variety of conditions, including:
- ADD/ADHD
- Anger/Behavior problems
- Autism
- Learning disabilities
- Memory loss
- Concentration problems
- Insomnia and sleep disturbances
- Anxiety
- Depression/Mood swings
- Migraines and other headaches
- Chronic pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Concussion and brain injury including strokes
During the session, the patient sits in a comfortable chair. It is painless and patients often notice immediate results. Call us 503.501.5001 for more details!
